  1. Can I give this than 5 stars Can I give it 10 A comic book, about a fat woman, who isn t the butt of a joke, or apologising for her size, or portrayed as pathetic Penny Rolle ROCKS

  2. Penny Rolle, I love you so Issue 3 presents the first character backstory guest artist special issue which will happen every third monthly Penny s story is told in flashbacks while a bunch of talking heads in suits attempt to get her to feel badly about herself Born Big pastry shop just makes me all kinds of happy, and Penny s customers are horrifically repugnant and not so unfamiliar despite the dystopian setting We also get a glimpse of other non compliant ladies from her past as well as a sup [...]

  3. Wow WOW I was a bit scared about this Penny Rolle origin story As a fat female I ve been burned many times by fat caricatures and stereotypes in my media consumption haha I had braced myself to see it done all wrong, to have another fat person made into a punchline Then I read and all of my expectations were exceeded When I finished I was full of emotion Is it possible to yell in glee, scream in anger, punch through a wall and laugh at the same time Whatever it was I did was something like that [...]

  4. This is the first of the special issues focusing on the back stories of the characters on Bitch Planet I really like how this not only informed character backstory but also did a lot for the world building as well Looking forward to the next special issue

  5. Obesity is a problem a major health risk and not a lifestyle to be encouraged I understand some people go through difficult times, sometimes it s genetic, and I don t expect or want everyone to be a size 0 I get that some women have curves than others, and a lot of different body types can be very beautiful But It is wrong to encourage being over weight just for the sake of someone s feelings I respect Penny and what she has gone through I understand she has a back story and I appreciate learni [...]

  6. If it ain t broke, don t fix it I ain t broked you bastards ain t never gonna break me Penny Rolle is my new hero

  7. FINALLY got a chance to read this issue and I LOVE it This issue s back matter essay was particularly awesome Everyone should be reading this series.

  8. As the first special third issue, where a guest artist comes in to illustrate the back story of a certain character and I felt that this was a GREAT start Penny Rolle is a character that I can connect with on many levels, mostly being that we cannot contain our feelings for outrageous bastards Already there are so many layers to Penny s story I WANT TO KNOW MORE GIVE ME A WHOLE VOLUME OF BACKSTORY PLS I also think these backstory issues being integrated throughout the series is genius My friend [...]

  9. I just want to say, thank you for this issue.I really like the art style And I m enjoying the furthering of the character development. For putting it out there that by societal standards brown and black women are non compliant just from the start Addressing and touching on the overabundance of minorities in our prison system.

  10. Loved this first special third Penny Rolle backstory Loved Richard Wilson IV s guest art Loved the Hey Kids, Patriarchy section LOVED IT

  11. Penny Rolle s vibrant back story and Megan Carpenter s fantastic essay resonated deeply with me Short and savage, these women continue to impact me deeply and refuse to let go.

  12. Brilliant feminist SF This issue is the most important one, so far, in terms of structural choices and characterization Also interesting use of colors in flashbacks.

  13. Penny Rolle is such a great character In the first couple of issues I was a little put off by how aggressive she was, but this issue totally cleared that up for me.

  14. Bitch Planet is probably the most important comic series being published currently It is a must read for every person.

  15. Well, I m getting a bit confused as to why they weren t combined in the first place This last one was basically a character study with a lot of body positivity, and I seriously think this whole volume is reading like a graphic novel and not a series of comics combined.

  16. Warning some spoilers ahead. So that one made my head explode in the best possible way I teared up reading Penny s story, particularly that amazing ending, and I teared up again reading the essay in the back There is so much wrapped up in it I d need days to unpack it all Suffice to say reading this made me realize that the last time I felt my body truly belonged to me and me alone was probably when I was very young From the moment kids in elementary school started bullying me about my weight, I [...]

  17. F ck Yes Bitch Planet.I m a late bloomer into the world of buying comics save for the random Archie comics I would have my Me Ma buy me as a kid my mother forbid things like comics and video games making it hard to grow these desires But this is also because comics have really taken off on a different level in the past several years like never before and I am now firmly riding this wave Image Comics is really doing some cool things thanks guys Enter Bitch Planet.I am in love with this comic I ex [...]

  18. The best issue of Bitch Planet yet It really gets at topics like patriarchy, feminism, racism, and the intersectionality of points of discrimination in individuals, so than any of the first four issues of the series It brilliantly shows Penny s unique experience with enough commonality for other readers to feel the burn of understanding, frustration, and empathy Its triumphant final scene made me tear up with pride, even if it wasn t completely unexpected Exceptionally well written. The guest ar [...]

  19. I think 3 is my favourite, so far, because of Penny Rolle This issue focuses entirely on her, from before BP to the fat shaming she endures by the Fathers, while inside I think Deconnick really nailed it with the background conversations in the bakery, eventually allowing Penny to do what many of us want to do snap Over and over, the Fathers try to manipulate Penny into shame for not caring how she looks, for not buying into their concept of compliance Carpentier s essay at the end was bitterswe [...]

  20. I continue my love affair with this comic and it s my favourite thing at the moment This is the first of the special thirds every third issue has a different artist and is focused on one particular character This issue gave the backstory of Penny Rolle, and why she came to be sent to Bitch Planet Penny is such an awesome, kickass character and I love her The final page reveal wasn t shocking, but it didn t bother me because of Penny s expression I really liked this month s essay in the back by M [...]
