  1. In his Inuit village, Tigluk noticed that there was a polar bear, Nanuq While the other villagers dashed off, Tigluk sought to follow Armed with the needed tools and a determined grandmother, Tigluk began his trek to find Nanuq, soon realising that the ice floes on which many of the bears took their rest were gone, as the warmer temperatures had surely melted them While Nanuq was gone, a present awaited Tigluk Neo liked that there were bears in the story, though he could not understand where Nan [...]

  2. I thought the illustrations in this book were beautiful The story was a little hard to follow sometimes because it had names of people and things I had never heard of before, but the story itself was interesting.

  3. This book brings in the issue of global warming and how it is affecting the animals that live in the area It also incorporates the characters native culture So, there are many different ways to incorporate this book into a classroom The illustrations are also very natural and realistic I gave this book a rating of four stars because I like the story line and how the author incorporated many topics and ideas into the book I feel like I could use this book in a couple different ways in my own clas [...]

  4. This might be an acceptable text to use with the very young to communicate the problem of global warming However, the story line itself is problematic and unrealistic A young Inuit boy leaves his home when he suspects a polar bear is on the loose then, with his grandmother, the boy follows the bear, bringing home an orphaned cub for the village to raise The bear s mother apparently drowned because of a lack of sea ice for her to rest on.While the melting ice is certainly of great concern to the [...]

  5. The point of this book is of course global warming, sadly that message falls flat and really only manifests itself on the very last page Had the other given due diligence to writing an excellent commentary on global warming this book had great potential to be tremendous. On a good note this book has exceptional illustrations they are simply beautiful and make it worth picking up this book to take a gander. If you are a bear lover you ll love the pictures, if you are a global warming activist, you [...]

  6. Stumbled over some of the words and language in this one, kids didn t seem to notice Wasn t a very easy book to follow, I found some of the plot got a bit off track in the middle and the kids got really distracted The end message was great though but I think it should have been a stronger storyline Didn t keep the kids engaged, but they got the message with a bit of thought and looking through the illustrations.

  7. After seeing who the author was, I understand the crux of the story Global warming and the last polar bear So, while I was put off by the political message, I did enjoy the cultural knowledge about Eskimos and how they try to preserve their heritage, including the animals that mean so much to them.

  8. This is a sweet story about a mother polar bear spirit finding help for her baby after she has died It is about the warming of the polar regions and how the polar bears survive in the changing climate.

  9. This would be a good 2nd grade book It is an easy read and its about the main character and how he helps out polar bears It is a good way to talk about people in the word that help animals move to a better environment so they won t die It is fiction.

  10. Environmental story for the preschool set loved the illustrations, and always admire George s informative books.

  11. Too preachy I prefer Winston of Churchill, a book from last year that deals with a similar topic in a much relaxed, humorous way.

  12. Very cute book about a polar bear cubs mom that died and a little boy takes care of the cub Great and realistic illustrations.
